- Broad Key (BK) is the northern most key in the North Key Largo group. It is across Broad Creek from the southern most key, Swan Key, in Biscayne National Park (BNP).
- The island is a coral head. Very little soil has collected so there is no digging on most of the island. My garden will be raised bed and pots.
- Utilities:
Electricity - provided by solar panels backed up by diesel generator. All electrical amenities can be used but reasonable care should be taken to not leave things running when not in use. A/C is available but it requires the use of the generator.
Water - the primary source of water is rainwater stored in a cistern. The cistern is fed by rainwater collected on roof of the Big House. While the water is probably good, drinking it is discouraged. Bottled water is provided - bring your favorite trekking bottle or the ubiquitous pop/water/sports drink bottle to carry water with you.
Communications - Cell phone service is good; at least with my carrier. Internet is available and adequate for streaming video. But this might be only the case when there are not too many users at the same time.
- The "Big House" is on the highest point in the Florida Keys at 21 feet.
